Petey had been in a kind of funk for a few weeks. He'd become brave enough to get into trouble, but then I put him in his cage (discipline) and he associated me with "bad." So, for a while he wouldn't step up, although with some convincing he'd come over for a head scratch.
For Thanksgiving J and I were out of town for a day. Then the following week I was out of town for another day. I think he's decided Mommy is pretty awesome and he can't imagine life back in the pet store.
Out of the blue he's basically taken a huge leap forward. Not only does he step up when I offer my hand, when I come into the room he runs toward me to step up. He's NEVER done that! Then, when he's on the patio, he will come to me even if he's on a chair. (Usually he'd jump down and run... now he stays.)
He's also venturing into new parts of the house. The other day he walked all the way from the parrot room across the villa to our bedroom. He gave a little "Hi guys!" peep as he mosied through the livingroom. He loves looking at the mirror in our room.
He's slowly getting used to hanging out with us in the livingroom. In the past two weeks I've helped him get used to being with us by filling the bowl on the play stand with almonds so that when he's out, it's a super-fun experience. He's increased his "in the livingroom chillin' with the 'rents" from 3 minutes to about a half hour now before he starts looking panicky. When back in the parrot room I've noticed that if all the rest of us are in the livingroom he'll sit in the hallway looking in the mirror and then watching us... he's venturing out!
Tonight he sat on my shoulder for a few minutes while I washed dishes... another new feat. He's getting used to his basket. I set it in the kitchen and give him a lot of almonds... basket time is increasing from 0 minutes (haha--he'd just jump off) to about 15 minutes.
Yay Petey! I love my silly little 'too boy! What a brave little guy!
