Some Great Reads
Mar. 15th, 2004 01:47 pmWhen I was in Community College (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth)
there were two essays I read in a certain English 1 comp class. I had
not been able to find these essays for these past years, until my good
friend, Nadia, lent me her old English book. I have since found them
online and will place them here.
What is Poverty?
"You ask me what is poverty? Listen to me. Here I am, dirty, smelly, and with no "proper" underwear on and with the stench of my rotting teeth near you. I will tell you. Listen to me. Listen without pity. I cannot use your pity. Listen with understanding. Put yourself in my dirty, worn out, ill-fitting shoes, and hear me."
And the other one "I want a Wife" I can't find. If I find it I shall stick it in the next post.
Great, thought-provoking reading.
