It's the little things
Little Petey makes me smile so much. He's all about preemption--do it himself before someone actually has to pick him up. If I'm putting Soph and Ath in their cages after all three have been out playing for a while, he'll race, hop, and jump into his cage so I don't have to pick him up.
On the other hand, if he knows it's playtime and I'll be putting him outside or on the play gym in the livingroom, he'll run over to me and step up. Not a cuddler that one--doesn't actually want to be held--Mommy exists to transport him places, and if he has to deal with being held to get to his favorite spots, that's ok.
On the other hand, if he suspects he's not going to be going out if he steps up, he usually won't, but will run and hide instead. This morning I put him outside, and when I was bringing him inside again, gave him lots of kisses and kisses. He's like, "Please, just put me down!!" lol Well, after all three were in their cages I pulled Soph out to give her a last minute kiss and cuddle. Then I offered my hand to Petey in his cage to see if he'd come. (Sometimes he does, sometimes he doenn't.) Nope! He knew where this was leading! Kisses and cuddles and those are for girls thankssomuch!!! LOL He's such a cutey.
The other funny thing about him is that he knows I often drop treats for him in his food dish whenever I come in the room. As soon as I'm a few feet away from his cage he'll dart into it to see if I left something. (And I usually have.) If I haven't, he digs through his food in case it's hidden, and then finding nothing, looks at me, supremely disappointed! LOL... Silly parrot. :)

They are sooooo fun, and the amazing thing is, as you said, they're sooooo intelligent! Like a little person with feathers. :)
