Face Blind

I've recently discovered that I have visual agnosia, which includes face blindness (prosopagnosia). What this means is that while I can see faces when they are in front of me, I don't distinguish them from anything else, and it's difficult for me to recognize the face later. In addition to faces, I can't remember other things I see, such as houses and cars. It's almost like I see through my "head" - my intuition - to get by.

If you're bored, here's a cool website that shows what it's like to have this:

In addition to faces, I can't distinguish my black Ford Explorer from any other black SUV except to memorize that it has two doors, and a white Sun Pass near the mirror. I always check the license tag to be sure it's actually mine before I hop in :-)

Hehe, it's nice to know there's a good reason for why I still can't recognize famous celebrities!

Anyway, aside from that, last night was the first night in over two weeks I've had more than 6 hours of sleep... there have been several nights of 0-4 hours of sleep. Ah, law school... gotta love it.

Haha. I love my husband. I stayed home from school today to study for my oral arguments that are coming up next week. At about 4:30 I decided I should probably clean something... it's starting to smell. So I cleaned the kitchen and part of the living room. I also cleaned the office and took the trash out.

He walked in the door from work. "Wow. You did some cleaning. Why? Is someone coming over?"

(Note: We both have been too busy to do anything but work/study for the past two weeks - he's had a trial almost every day, and I've had briefs, oral arguments, and other things due.)

I think next month we shall hire someone to come and clean...

I've been reading up on the genocide in Cambodia in the late 70s. (The Killing Fields is a movie about this.) What happened was so awful and tragic. Two million people massacred in a few short years... Yet, why didn't anyone do anything about it? Likewise, why isn't anyone doing anything about Darfur, Sudan? Is it because there's no oil there? Because there's nothing of value? It disgusts me that we focus so much on the horrors of the Holocaust - which WERE horrible - and ignore the fact that it's going on RIGHT now.

Just yesterday, the BBC had a report from the UN re: the violence in Darfur.

Darfur 'Death Toll' Much Higher

And yet, I don't hear any calls for peace and democracy in Sudan. I see no reports of Allies planning to swoop in and combat the evil perpetrators of death and rape. Right now, the UN is trying to decide whether they should impose sanctions against the 'Worst of the Perpetrators' at all. Sick.

Anyway, I have been reading about the Cambodian genocide a bit this week, and also studying the long-term effects of the Khmer Rouge occupation on the refugees here in America. The following are some excerpts from a great article.

Ah, politics... We can police the States that have Oil, while turning a blind eye to the killings of millions from whom we have nothing to gain. Gotta love it.

Yup, orals next week, so I'm updating my LJ like there's no tomorrow :-)

Here's a cartoon that's ironic :-)
