My last 1L class...
Apr. 28th, 2005 07:31 amYesterday was my last class as a 1L law student. It was kind of sad for the semester to end. I really enjoyed all of my professors, and learned more about myself - overcoming fears of perfection and just striving to do my best - in the last three months than ever before. I guess when you go through the fire your true colors shine. I saw a side of myself I'd never seen before -- trying hard at all costs, not fearing failure, all-nighters and ambition. Quite a change from the undergraduate perfectionist who procrastinated just so she didn't have to fear learning that she'd fail even if she tried hard.
No, this semester, I put my blood, my guts, my love, my ALL into my work. And it paid off in so many ways - from the respect of students AND professors at school to the satisfaction of knowing I did a good job and taking pride in my work.
Sounds like things most people have and take for granted, I guess, but it was new to me. I loved last semester. I love my professors, my studies, the all nighters, the thrill of answering correctly in class... and then being the one the profs call on when they NEED a correct answer... the happiness when a classmate whom you hardly know shyly asks if he could have your notes for last Friday b/c he was out sick and heard yours are the best in class... or a prof says, "Well, if somehow you don't get on law review, I'll take you on for an independent research project on that topic it's so good!"...
that's what happens when you try your best, and you find that maybe, afterall, your best really was worth the effort.
