Athie's so funny. I got Sophia out of her cage this afternoon and forgot Athie was in hers. She said, "Helloooo? C'mere! Come here! Come on! Ok? C'mere!! Helloooo! *whistle* C'mere!!!" Then I realized she was still in her cage... And got her out.
Nadia came to visit Tuesday night. She left this morning. It was soooo much fun to see her and hang out. Sophia, however, has made an Arch Enemy. Soph's going through a nippy phase. I think she's just discovered her beak can influence how people behave (like "I'll bite you unless you scratch my head."). So she's been nipping lately, and I usually shake my hand and say, "No!" If it's a hard nip, or with malice, she goes into her cage.
Tuesday night she loved Nadia. Wednesday morning she nipped her. So she went into her cage. She was mad that Nadia was the cause of her confinement, marched up to her, and nipped her again! And Sophia went right back into her cage! When she got out again, she nipped Nadia a third time! And within a short period, Sophia wasn't allowed to visit Nadia anymore, because we realized that she was only visiting to nip her--and hard! "You put me in jail! I don't like you!"
I'm not sure what to do with this nippy phase. I keep saying, "No!" and putting her in the cage... but it doesn't seem to be making much difference. When she's mad, she nips. (And whether or not she's mad, she nips Nadia.) Maybe she's feeling hormonal? Kind of early though--she's only almost 2 and I think we have at least another year, possibly two more years, before we hit the hormones... Maybe she's testing her boundaries.
Tonight I made acorn squash stuffed with apples and oranges. Sophia saw it coming and began grinding her beak... "Mmmm! Dinner!" When it cooled enough for her to have some, she was sorely disappointed, however. She picked through the whole thing looking for chicken. She'd pull out an apple piece, examine it. "Nope, not chicken." Then she'd drop it onto the floor. Then she'd pull out another slice. "Nope, not chicken." Drop it onto the floor. She went through the whole thing! She finally decided the squash bit was tolerable. Now she's sitting on my shoulder. She just told me "Hi!" and bent over for kisses.
