Palm Cockatoo

This is the rare and beautiful Palm Cockatoo. The photos aren't all complete (or perfect). Ahem, i didn't know that darker colored animals are very difficult to photograph until my wonderful photo-art mentor mentioned it to me tonight... lol. Anyway, feedback is sooo appreciated--anything to improve. I'm a perfectionist so I see a million things wrong with these photos... which flaws are most noticeable (or least forgiveable)? LOL

OH--her name is Moonlight. She's mentioned in this article: http://www.oldworldaviaries.com/text/lewis/palm.html (There's also a photo of her there.) She danced through the whole photo shoot and wanted kisses and cuddles in between pictures! LOL!

Okay, first of all, that is one incredible looking bird. I'm just in awe.

1. I like the picture. With the red border, the red in the bird and the red flower, it's a nice pop. I think that you need to compensate for the birds huge crest. It feels like the rest of the bird/picture is dwarfed by those feathers. Maybe something larger toward the left bottom corner.

2. Is a good clean picture but I feel like the bird is dwarfed by her crest. I love the way the deep black on her face stands out.

3. I'm not sure about the yellow flowers, I think I prefer the red better. Composition wise, this is a much better shot, the whole bird, crest and all appear proportional, although I wish it was clsoer to her.

4 i think this is my favorite. I love seeing her eyes.

5. I also really like this one. Its a great shot! I think maybe if she was facing the other way, the overall photo wouldn't look so heavily weighted to the right.

6. Her tongue is red!?! It's a pretty neat shot. Interesting vantage point. I'm not crazy about the blurring - was it intentional?

This is a great series! I hope the owner loved it.

1. You are totally right about that crest dwarfing the rest of her!! Do you think if I cropped it closer to her it would offset the lack of something on the left?

3. Mommy's favorite color is yellow. ;)

4. Awesome! I think she looks like an alien creature there! LOL!!! I think it was the only one where her face was absolutely clear, if you can believe it. She never stopped bouncing. Usually altering the shutter speed helps keep it clear but the difficulty of photographing darker subjects is that it's harder to compensate for movement for some reason. most of the 200+ shots i have of her are terrible!! LOL

5. Maybe i can crop this to make it less weighted. i know what you mean though.

6. yep--red tongue with black tip! nothing was intentional in these pics. lol. just thought it added an interesting perspective.

Wow 200+ pictures. No wonder you come out with a handful of really amazing ones to always share with us :-)

Thanks for asking for feedback. I miss my painting days so it's good practice for me to keep the eye sharp. Sometimes I'm way off base and it's good to stay well grounded.

I would utterly love to meet you someday. If we're ever down that way, I'll definately let you know. And likewise, if you're ever going to be up north, say S.C or anywere remotely near DE, let me know.
